The city has evolved and changed over time from the Gold Rush development to the extensive park system created by John C. Olmstead, through the boom of the Boeing company following World War II and the introduction of the first US passenger jets. The World Fair of 1962 brought attention to the tourism appeal of Seattle. The Fair brought the Space Needle observation tower which is one of Seattle's greatest city attractions along with historic Pioneer Square and Pike Place Market – the oldest continuously operating farmer's market with over 200 year-round commercial businesses. In the 1990s, the city of Seattle, home to the Microsoft company, was on the leading edge of the software technology movement while at the same time witnessing the gourmet coffee boom led by local company Starbucks. There was local "flavor" to the music world from Seattle as well as grunge rock became part of the music discussion. The PPA Fall Leadership Seminar will be held in Seattle this Fall – mark your calendars now to attend a great learning and networking opportunity in a city of great history, culture and appeal.
